Twelve years ago in 2005, my husband and I relocated our family to a small town southeast of Seattle - Enumclaw, WA. We bought a well-loved craftsman home from only the second family to live in it since it was built in 1920.  Our children, then in grade school, grew up here in this beautiful community and are now full-fledged adults.  The property is a double city lot including a small structure, we call "the little house" out back which was the original home on the property built in 1910.  It has always been a dream of ours to remodel it into a guest house. Our daughter and her boyfriend want to buy a home of their own in our crazy Pacific Northwest real estate market, so we have decided now is the perfect time to create a little house out back for them to live in while they save for that dream.

Ari, my daughter, and I are both passionate about old funky houses, vintage "stuff", DIY, and recycling before buying new.  We love old homes and structures and believe in restoring before remodeling.  We thought it would be fun to document our journey through posts and photographs. We have a pretty small budget, but a couple of creative minds full of crazy , fun ideas.

About the house - It was built in 1910 and last occupied sometime in the 1940's. It is maybe 500 square feet total, maybe.... It has two bedrooms (soon to be one), a kitchen/living/dining space, and a bathroom. Our first hurdle was confirming that it is attached to city sewer, as running a sewer line would have been cost prohibitive. It contains a lot of original fixtures that we will do our best to keep, but basically needs to be stripped to the studs and redone. It has knob and tube wiring, plaster and lathe walls, needs replumbed, but the oak floors are still beautiful!

About us - Ari and Taylor are a great young couple just starting their journey together.  They current rent an 1800 square foot, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home so this is going to be a challenging transition for them.  Ari's biggest challenge will be closet space!  Jeff and I have done a few projects on the main house and have discovered when working on older homes, plan twice the time and money!  We are still married and even like each other after 26 years, 2 kids, and one old well-loved house!

Join us on our journey to create the perfect "Little House on Lafromboise".
